Richard “Dick” Mero, age 96 of Plymouth (formerly of Brooklyn Center), passed away on Sept. 3, 2024.
Dick was born on May 27, 1928, in Minneapolis, MN to Earl & Erma (Schneck) Mero. He was a 1946 graduate of Patrick Henry High School. He served in the Army Occupation Forces in Japan right after WWII. After returning home, he began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He worked there for 42 years. In 1951, he married Lorraine (Geraghty) Mero. They were blessed with 2 children, a son Richard “Rick” & daughter, Nancy. They also had an infant daughter, Shirley, who died after only 2 days. In 1971, he joined the Aqua Jesters, and became a clown named “Potso.” He was proud of performing in every Aquatennial parade for 48 years. He was elected the Senior Commodore for 2004. After that, he was active with the Aquatennial Senior Singers group, where he performed as recently as this summer, when they appeared at his residence of Amira Choice.
He has been a longtime member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, where you could find him ushering every Sunday morning.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Howard) Hanson of Plymouth, MN along with nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by wife of 61 years, Lorraine; his parents; son, Rick; infant daughter, Shirley; brothers, Allen and Doug; and sister, Carol Larson.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, 5929 Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Center at 11AM, with a visitation at the church at 10AM. Interment at Crystal Lake Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Cross of Glory.
Potso has passed, the Commodore has left the building, and the Usher has been reassigned to a heavenly post.
