Walter Childers

Childers, Walter “Walt”, age 87, of Brooklyn Park. 4/10/1934 – 12/15/2021

Heaven gained a super angel when Walt earned his wings to join the Lord and continue his work in heaven. He grew up in N. Mpls. where he met his wife, Joyce, while attending Henry High. They had many friends, loved to dance, and attended football games where he was a star player. After graduation, Walt enlisted in the Marines where he served for 6 years (Korean war) earning his rank as sergeant and mechanic. He married his high school sweetheart and together they had 5 children. After his honorable discharge they returned to Mpls. where he attended the U of M, Gustavus Adolphus, and Oklahoma State, where he earned a Master’s Degree in education. He went on to teach at a few schools and spent the majority of his career at Bloomington Jefferson High School, where he also coached soccer. They purchased their first and only home in Brooklyn Park which they still own. Walt’s passions were family, fishing, and teaching. He retired from teaching at 59 years young and enjoyed 28 years of doing what he loved – fishing in Canada and his cabin, fixing everything & anything, visiting family, and spending 16 years RVing every winter, eventually traveling to all 50 states.

Survived by his wife, Joyce (Ringate) children, Jim (Linda), David (Teresa), Sue, Linda (Pat), and Mark (Vicky); 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and brother, John (Sheryl). Preceded in death by his parents, Elza & Mable Childers.

Funeral Service 7 PM Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, 34 2nd St. NE, Osseo, with visitation 4-7 PM. Masks required. Private interment Ft. Snelling Nat’l. Cemetery, Mpls. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
